Description:

The two works displayed here are part of a project that I have been engaged with for a while, based on the concept of security guards. They include both army men in the borders as well as security guards of typical offices.

The question that has propelled me is: “What is the need of so much security?”. A superficial answer is available: “Generally to protect the country, and in other times, to protect private property”. But there is a difference between governmental and private ownership of land/assets. I have tried to understand that difference.

These works have been done using masonide boards, iron tools for wood cut, printing black ink and Nepali handmade paper. The use of the iron tools on masonide has a direct co-relation with the iron wire and the grass of the border area. The colour black, too, has a special significance: it denotesfear and gloom; in addition to its usual material connotations of security (think of the black of the collapsible gate, the wire of the border, etc).
